Frequently Asked Questions

ECO CRAYONS

CAN MY KIDS EAT THESE

Open tab

Theoretically yes, practically though it is not recommended. Eco Crayons are made with 100% natural food grade ingredients so that they are the most natural and sustainable drawing materials on the market. They are safe for kids to mouth and with sensory needs but we do not recommend that you 'eat' them. It is also essential that children are always supervised when using Eco Crayons.

HOW DO I GET ECO CRAYONS OFF?

Open tab

Your best bet is to use pure eucalyptus oil as it breaks down the wax and pigment. You can also use one of those weird magic sponge things.

WHY ARE MY CRAYONS MILKY WHITE

Open tab

The long and short of it is science - it is an oxidisation of the wax and plant pigment and it is completely safe and normal. We 'polish' our eco crayons with a mircofibre cloth if they go milky.

WHY ARE ECO CRAYONS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN UNDER 3 YEARS?

Open tab

All art materials can change shape with use, especially crayons, and this is why Eco Crayons are labelled as not being recommended for children under the age of 3. Adult supervision is also essential when children are using Eco Crayons and Natural Eco Paints.

NATURAL ECO PAINTS

How do I use Natural Eco Paints?

Open tab

The paint comes in powder form and you just add water to mix it to the desired consistency. The best thing about Natural Eco Paints is that you can add as little or as much water as you like to make a watercolour, brush application or sensory paste. It is completely normal for your paint to be textured or have 'bits' in it - this is because if the botanicals used to colour the paint are ground any further they turn into a paste which cannot be used in the powder. This earthy texture adds to the sensory experience.

Do I have to use it all at once?

Open tab

NO! The idea with Natural Eco Paints is that you mix small amounts as you go, this reduces wastage too. If you mix more than you need you can store the excess paint in the fridge for up to three days.

Can I use Natural Eco Paints on timber?

Open tab

Natural Eco Paints can definitely be used on timber but they are more of a tint than a paint (like an acrylic) for example. The best way to get the most vibrant colour is to:

Use them on lighter timbers: pine, birch or beech

Cover the timber thoroughly and allow the pigment to leech into the timber, staining it

Mix the paint a tad thicker than 1:3 ratio

Finish the timber with a light coat of plant based oil like pure tung oil or coconut oil

Can I use Natural Eco Paints on fabric?

Open tab

Yes! The colour pigments are selected for their staining qualities, which is why we recommend that you always wear a smock. The colours are not water-fast or the same vibrancy as the paint when it is applied but it makes for a fun activity.

ALLERGEN INFORMATION

Are Eco Crayons and Natural Eco Paints safe for children with allergies?

Open tab

Yes, however this comes with a BUT. Eco Crayons and Natural Eco Paints are the most natural art products on the market and are designed to be low allergen. Having said this we are aware that some children may experience allergic reactions to any new product. Eco Crayons are not designed for eating and Natural Eco Paints are not designed for ingestion and as a body paint but kids will try these things so it is essential that adult supervision occurs.

Why don't you list the ingredients?

Open tab

I am extremely transparent with all information as part of my business practices however I have had numerous businesses try to copy my products and rebrand my products under their label. For this reason I do not disclose the ingredients. If you have any questions about the presence or absence of particular products though please email me: hello@ecoartandcraft.com.

Custom batches

Open tab

I can make custom batches of Eco Crayons or Natural Eco Paints for people with known allergies or intolerance, including but limited to: soy free, preservative free, fpies, known vegetable and plant allergies. The reason I do this is because I want all people to be able to explore colour safely and naturally and with a severe allergy history myself and as a mum of a child with anaphylactic allergies, I get it. Just reach out and ask x

SOY

Open tab

Eco Crayons contain a 10% soy wax component.

PRESERVATIVES

Open tab

Eco Crayons and Natural Eco Paints both contain less than 1% of Potassium Sorbate. The main reason is because if they didn't your kids crayons and paint would grow mould in less than 24 hours. Potassium Sorbate is a common food grade preservative used in packaged food, cosmetics and personal care products. If your child is sensitive to preservatives a CUSTOM PRESERVATIVE FREE batch can be made: just email hello@ecoartandcraft.com.

TREE GUM

Open tab

There are tree derived gums in Natural Eco Paints.
